So you’ve released or are getting ready to release a single, your promo pics look decent and you have some gigs booked. You’ve been advertising on social media and working on increasing your fanbase. Excellent, you are on the right track, however have you given much thought to your brand?
In basic terms, your brand is what defines you as a musician…who you are and what you have to offer. Your brand is what makes you stand out from all the other musicians out there. If you want to get noticed, you need a brand fans are going to remember. A great example is the Greatful Dead. They didn’t have Top 40 songs, in fact many of their songs were not played on radio. So how did they create a legion of loyal fans that were willing to go on the road and follow them cross country? You got it, they had a strong brand that catered to their fans, which turned into a lifestyle…. tie-dye & Deadheads. The band played differents sets every night, allowing fans to jam with them and shows were jam sessions.
The Grateful Dead developed trust with their fans and that led to a tight knit community that worshipped the band. Plus they never changed their style., image, music..they stayed true to what they believed in and that’s the key here. Creating a brand that is truly and unique you and what your music represents is the most important thing when it comes to branding, so give it a lot of thought as you don’t want to keep changing it when trends change, it needs to remain consistent and uniquely you. So keep on Truckin’! (What a long strange trip it’s been) 🙂
